The Five Ancestors

OUT OF THE ASHES

Book 2

Cover of kung fu novel LION by author Jeff Stone from The Five Ancestors: Out of the Ashes series.

Ryan Vanderhausen is psyched. After his mountain biking disaster, he discovers that his size and strength make him a natural for road bike racing. And with his friends Phoenix and Jake, they’ve almost got an unbeatable team . . . they just need one more rider. Phoenix’s new friend Hú Dié might just work; she’s a great racer . . . and really pretty.

Ryan, Phoenix, Jake, and Hú Dié head to California to train with Ryan’s cousin Peter, learning the ins and outs (literally) of the road, when suddenly things get weird. They hear of experienced bikers dropping dead, and a random post on a popular biking blog leads to the appearance of a very unwelcome visitor from their past.

Then Peter and Jake are kidnapped . . .

The Five Ancestors: Out of the Ashes trilogy that began with Phoenix races on with the same adrenaline-filled, fast-paced writing that has made Jeff Stone a favorite with kids.

What People Are Saying

Common Sense Media

“Author Jeff Stone has achieved much success with his exciting, page-turning epics that draw even reluctant readers into the adventure, and LION follows in that tradition. The characters are appealing, with distinct personalities that get a good chance to develop further in this installment -- as does the creative mix of martial arts, mythology, and bicycle racing. Parents might want to check whether the book's plentiful, mostly cartoonish violence is too much for their particular kid, but in general, Lion's a well-crafted, compelling tale with many positive lessons about friendship, teamwork, perseverance, and trying to do the right thing."

“This is a fun series about bike racing with some intrigue thrown in about an extremely dangerous, mythical substance called dragon's bone. I enjoyed getting to know the 2nd young teenager as he fought the negative effects of the dragon's bone that his uncle had forced on him in the 1st book of this series. The friendships forged in the earlier book grow stronger in this new book. I really enjoyed reading it.”
